Event Supervise!
What is an Event Supervisor (ES)?
Event Supervisors (ES) are club members who work in small teams to plan and run one event at each of our tournaments. Events are assigned based on member preferences and may be written tests, build events, or hybrid (a combination of both). ES responsibilities include preparing materials ahead of time (such as writing tests or setting up builds) and proctoring the event during the tournament. This is a semester-long commitment that requires both preparation and participation on competition day. Learn more about events here.
What does being a Cornell Scioly ES look like?
As an Event Supervisor (ES), you’ll work in a team of two to three people to prepare and run one event for each of our tournaments. This includes writing tests or creating other event materials in advance, then proctoring and grading the event on Tournament Day. You’ll also manage your event room’s time blocks and return to HQ afterward for official scoring.
Each year, we host two tournaments: our Division C tournament in the fall semester and our Division B tournament in the spring semester. Events vary between these tournaments (see the 2025-26 event slate) and new tests must be written for each one. While we prefer that ESes participate in both tournaments, we may also be able to accommodate those who may only do one.
We know that preparing for events can be fun, but also time-intensive. So you’ll always be paired with teammates and guided by more experienced ESes and members of the Eboard. Remember that we are always here to help and support you, so don’t be afraid to reach out!
Outside of tournaments, Event Supervisors attend regular GBody meetings, which occur Tuesdays at 5 PM. While attendance is expected, we’re flexible and happy to accommodate conflicts – we know college life can be hectic.
Additional Opportunities
We also provide many optional outreach opportunities throughout the year. These include:
Volunteering at the Southern Tier regional competition at Ithaca High School
Volunteering at the New York State competition in Syracuse
Teaching STEM classes through Splash!
Potential new programs at local middle and high schools
